Frequently Asked Questions

In The First Hours

Call our 24-hour line on 072 748 1705 or 021 200 0005. We will guide you through the immediate steps, including collection of your loved one and the documents you’ll need.

If the death was sudden, unexpected, or the cause isn’t clear, yes — the police need to be involved before the body can be moved. If the death was expected, following a known illness, a doctor can confirm the death and you can contact us directly.

Not immediately, but a funeral home should be contacted as soon as possible so the deceased can be collected and cared for appropriately, in line with South African health regulations.

Generally you will need the deceased’s ID document, a notification of death form completed by a medical practitioner, and your own ID. Our team assists with this process.

A death should be reported to Home Affairs promptly, and the estate must generally be reported to the Master of the High Court within 14 days. We can guide you on the local Cape Town offices to use.
